| 2. | Functions/Services of the Department | Municipal Chief Auditor is a Statutory Auditor of Brihanmumbai Mahanagarpalika. As per the provision of Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, 1888 under section 78A (amended), the State Government is empowered to depute a suitable officer, not below the rank of the Joint Director from the Maharashtra Finance and Account Services, as a Municipal Chief Auditor to perform such duties as he is directed by this Act to perform and such other duties with regard to the audit of the accounts of the municipal funds. The Water and Sewage fund and the consolidated Water Supply and Sewage Disposal Loan Fund as shall be required of him by the Corporation or by the Standing Committee and with regard to the audit of the account s of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Fund as shall be required of him by the Corporation or by the BEST Committee. 1. In compliance with the provision of Sec.135(1) of M.M.C. Act, The MCA conducts a monthly examination and audit of the Municipal Accounts and report thereon to the Standing Committee. 2. As per the provision of Sec.136 of MMC Act, the MCA, is addition to any other duties or powers imposed as conferred upon him under MMC Act performs the duties and may exercise the powers specified in schedule EE of MMC Act. In compliance with the provision of section 137(3) of MMC Act, MCA submits Audit Report upon the whole of the municipal accounts for the previous official year for information and consideration of the Standing Committee. Similarly in compliance with the provision of Sec.137A of MMC Act, MCA submits Audit Report upon the whole of the BEST accounts for the previous official year for information and consideration of the BEST Committee. The Municipal Chief Auditor, subject to the orders of the Standing Committee, supervise and control the members of his staff namely assistant auditors, clerks and appointed under the provision of section 78(B) of MMC Act. |
