The Education Committee consists of 26 members of whom 22 are Councillors and 4 are not Councillors (Section 50G).

The non-Councillors appointed are the persons whose names are enrolled on the municipal election roll as voters, graduates of Universities recognised by the Corporation, five years teaching or administrative experience in educational institutions and possess such other qualifications as the Corporation may determine in this behalf.

The Corporation nominate at their first meeting after General Elections 22 persons to be the members of the Education Committee (Section 50H). One-half of the Councillor Members and one-half of the other members of the Education Committee retire at noon on the first day of April every year. The members who retire on the first day of April next after the Constitution of the Education Committee are being selected by lot in the month of February every year in such a manner as the Chairman may determine (Section 50K). The Corporation at their ordinary meeting in the month of March, appoint fresh members of the Education Committee in place of retiring members as aforesaid (Section 50L). The Education Committee at their first meeting in each official year appoint one of their own member to be their Chairman until first meeting of the said Committee in the next official year.

The Education Committee meets for the despatch of business in the municipal head office and can from time to time make such regulations with respect to such meetings and to the management of Schools under their control, as they think fit (Section 50P).

The Education Committee meets once in a month and at such other time, if find necessary [Clause (a)] (The notice of the meeting specifying the day, time and the place at which such meeting is to be held and the business is to be transacted in the meeting (Agenda and accompaniments) is prepared by the Municipal Secretary and sent to the Committee Members at their residential address.)

The first meeting of each Education Committee held on a day and at the time to be fixed by the Mayor [Clause (b)].

The Chairman of the Education Committee whenever he thinks fit calls a Special Meeting of the Education Committee, upon a written request of not less than four members. [Clause (c)].

Quorum of members is required for transacting the business before the Committee. [Clause (d)]

The Commissioner and the Education Officer has right for remain present in the meetings of the Education Committee and to take part in the discussions but has no right to vote or move any proposition at such meeting. (Section 50Q)

As per Section 4 of the M.M.C. Act, 1888, to Education Committee is one of the Municipal authority. Education Committee takes decisions in respect of educational activities carried out by the administration.The Education Committee from Budget Estimates 'E' and to forward the same to the Corporation through the Standing Committee for their final approval.In the field of Education Committee is doing a laudable work.
