CONSTITUTION
The Education Committee consists of 26 members of whom 22 are Councillors and 4 are not Councillors (Section 50G).
The non-Councillors appointed are the persons whose names are enrolled on the municipal election roll as voters, graduates of Universities recognised by the Corporation, five years teaching or administrative experience in educational institutions and possess such other qualifications as the Corporation may determine in this behalf.
The Corporation nominate at their first meeting after General Elections 22 persons to be the members of the Education Committee (Section 50H). One-half of the Councillor Members and one-half of the other members of the Education Committee retire at noon on the first day of April every year. The members who retire on the first day of April next after the Constitution of the Education Committee are being selected by lot in the month of February every year in such a manner as the Chairman may determine (Section 50K). The Corporation at their ordinary meeting in the month of March, appoint fresh members of the Education Committee in place of retiring members as aforesaid (Section 50L). The Education Committee at their first meeting in each official year appoint one of their own member to be their Chairman until first meeting of the said Committee in the next official year.
